By July 25, 2011, existing companies affected by the above cited EPA regulations must submit an initial notification and meet the compliance requirements. By November 22, 2011, companies must submit notification of compliance status.

Which companies are potentially affected?
Those in which the primary activity is one of those listed in category one and engaged in one of the processes listed in category two:
- Facilities where the primary activity is one of the following areas:
- Electrical and Electronic Equipment Finishing Operations
- Fabricated Metal Products
- Fabricated Plate Work (Boiler Shops)
- Fabricated Structural Metal Manufacturing
- Heating Equipment, Except Electric
- Industrial Machinery and Equipment Finishing Operations
- Iron and Steel Forging
- Primary Metal Products Manufacturing
- Valves and Pipe Fittings
- Any of the five following processes, when using materials that contain compounds of cadmium, chromium, lead, manganese, and nickel:
- Dry Abrasive Blasting
- Dry Grinding and Dry Polishing with Machines
- Dry Machining
- Spray Painting
- Welding
